Dr Mohammed Pate, a former Minister of State for Health in the Goodluck Jonathan Administration, has been elected into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
Pate was among the 269 outstanding individuals recently announced as fellows of the prestigious academy.
David Oxtoby, who is the Academy President and Nancy Andrews, Chair of the Board of Directors both announced the 2023 list of recipients of the honours. The new recipients will be inducted on September 29 and a formal ceremony will take place on September 30. Pate, a professor of Public Health Leadership in the Department of Global Health and Population at Harvard University, was elected for his outstanding contributions to knowledge production and humanity.
He has had a distinguished career in public service in Nigeria as Chief Executive of National Primary Health Agency and later as Minister of State for Health from where he proceeded to join the World Bank. His global reputation as a professor of repute in Public Health has continued to bring honour and prestige to Nigeria.
In 2021, Pate became a Julio Frenk Professor of the Practice of Public Health Leadership at Harvard University and was later appointed in 2023 the Chief Executive Officer of GAVI, the Vaccine Alliance which works to provide vaccines in low income countries.
