January 14, (THEWILL) – Olympique de Marseille continued their winning streak with a comfortable 3-1 victory against Lorient on Saturday, in Ligue 1 and climb to third place.

Marseillais started strong with 84% possession but this did not prevent the visitors from getting the breakthrough with Nigerian forward, Terem Moffi, opening the scoring in the 29th minute when he volleyed in a cross from a corner kick. Going behind forced Marseille back and the game became more balanced.

The momentum that the goal gave to Lorient was soon after, snuffed out as a perfect cross from Cengiz Ãœnder and a powerful header from Sead Kolasinac, allowed the hosts to tie the game in the 38th minute

Marseille continued to apply pressure on the Lorient goal all through the rest of the first half and into the early stages of the second. The pressure paid off seven minutes before the hour mark when Alexis Sanchez, doubled their advantage. Marseille put the result beyond doubt six minutes later through a Jordan Veretout goal.

On Friday, both teams will be in the Coupe de France competition as Marseille will hope to keep up the winning when they host Rennes while SC Bastia welcomes Lorient in Saturday’s match.
