June 26, (THEWILL) – Croatian playmaker, Luka Modric, has committed his future to Real Madrid by signing a contract extension that will keep him at the club until June 2024, as announced by the La Liga giants on Monday.
The 37-year-old, who originally joined Real Madrid from Tottenham Hotspur in 2012, has since become an integral part of the team, securing five UEFA Champions League titles and three La Liga trophies.
His previous contract was set to expire this summer, potentially opening the door for a free transfer. However, Real Madrid confirmed the extension, stating: “Real Madrid and Luka Modric have agreed to extend the player’s contract, which remains linked to the club until June 30, 2024.”
Despite speculation linking Modric to a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia, the Croatian midfielder has chosen to continue his career with Real Madrid. Notably, Modric played a vital role in Croatia’s journey to the 2018 World Cup final and was honoured with the prestigious Ballon d’Or award the same year.
Expressing his satisfaction with the contract extension, Modric took to Twitter and wrote, “Home Sweet Home. #Modric2024,” indicating his contentment at remaining with the Spanish giants.
The contract extension for Luka Modric comes as a significant boost for Real Madrid, ensuring the retention of a highly skilled and experienced player. Modric’s exceptional performances on the pitch, his ability to control the midfield, and his extensive trophy collection make him an invaluable asset to the club’s ambitions.
With his renewed commitment, Real Madrid can continue to rely on Modric’s leadership and expertise as they strive for further success in domestic and European competitions.
