February 19, (THEWILL) – Inter Milan played to an important 3-1 victory over Udinese in Serie A on Saturday thanks to two second-half goals from Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Lautaro Martinez.
Romelu Lukaku had given Inter the lead from the penalty spot, but Sandi Lovric equalised before the break with a well-taken finish. Despite dominating early on, Inter failed to capitalise on their advantage, and Lovric’s goal rocked the hosts.
However, Mkhitaryan came to the rescue in the 73rd minute with a stunning volley to restore Inter’s lead, and Martinez added a late third to ensure the three points stayed at the San Siro.
Inter now have a three-point cushion over third-place city rivals AC Milan in the race for UEFA Champions League qualification, while Udinese remain mid-table.
Inter will look to build on this result when they host Porto in the UCL next Wednesday before facing Bologna in Serie A next Sunday, while Udinese will host Spezia in their next league fixture.
