September 14, (THEWILL) – Paulo Fonseca’s AC Milan recorded their first Serie A victory of the 2024 season with a commanding 4-0 win over Venezia at the San Siro. The Portuguese manager ended a three-game winless streak in impressive fashion, with his team dominating from the outset.
The Rossoneri opened the scoring early when Rafael Leao set up Theo Hernandez, whose shot beat Venezia goalkeeper Jesse Joronen in the second minute. Matteo Gabbia doubled Milan’s lead in the 16th minute, converting a Christian Pulisic corner. Two penalties, converted by Pulisic and Tammy Abraham, rounded off the scoring before half-time.
Venezia’s woes were compounded when Hans Nicolussi Caviglia received a second yellow card following a VAR review, reducing the visitors to 10 men. The away side, managed by Eusebio Di Francesco, remains at the bottom of the Serie A table with just one point from four matches.
This result marks the first time since October 1958, that Milan has scored four goals in a single Serie A match. The win also spares them the ignominy of becoming only the second Milan side in 65 years to go winless in their opening four league fixtures.
For Venezia manager Di Francesco, this defeat continued a poor run against Milan, having lost six of his last seven encounters with the Rossoneri. Milan will look to build on this result in their upcoming fixtures, while Venezia faces an uphill battle to improve their league position.
