May 20, (THEWILL) – The men’s and women’s singles draws for Roland-Garros 2022 were released on Thursday, revealing some exciting matchups and highly anticipated prospective matches.
Novak Djokovic, the top seed and defending champion, will play Yoshihito Nishioka of Japan in the first round and might face Rafael Nadal, the 13-time Roland-Garros champion, in the quarter-finals this time around.
However, Djokovic and Nadal are in the same side as the impressive youngster Carlos Alcaraz, the sixth seed, who beat both players heading into Roland Garros, and Alexander Zverev, the third seed. Daniil Medvedev is the number two seed and is expected to face Andrey Rublev, the number seven seed, in the quarterfinals.
In the semi-finals, Medvedev could face last year’s finalist, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Norwegian number eight seed, Casper Ruud.
The the finals of the French Open will begin with opening serves on June 5, where the possibility of one of Djokovic or Nadal qualifying remains high even with the challenge posed by Alcaraz on clay so far.
