September 22, (THEWILL) – Lando Norris claimed his third Formula One victory of the 2024 season at the Singapore Grand Prix, finishing 20 seconds ahead of Max Verstappen. The win reduced Verstappen’s lead in the driver championship to 52 points, intensifying the title race.

Norris dominated from the start, building a substantial lead over Verstappen. By Lap 17, he had extended his advantage to over 11.5 seconds. The race saw intense competition throughout the field, with Franco Colapinto making a strong start and holding a top-10 position until his pit stop on Lap 30.

McLaren’s strategy proved crucial, with Norris managing a reported front wing issue midway through the race. The team opted not to change the wing during his pit stop, instead adjusting the setup and switching to hard compound tyres. This decision allowed Norris to maintain his lead and control the race.

Oscar Piastri, Norris’s teammate, delivered a standout performance. After a late pit stop on Lap 39, Piastri swiftly overtook Lewis Hamilton and George Russell to claim the final podium position. His aggressive manoeuvre around Russell at Turn 4 on Lap 45 was a highlight of the race.

The top five finishers were Lando Norris, Max Verstappen, Oscar Piastri, George Russell, and Charles Leclerc. Daniel Ricciardo set the fastest lap of the race in the closing stages, denying Norris a grand slam. The result further solidifies McLaren’s position as a top team in the 2024 Formula One season.
