Mbappe To Wear Mask After Breaking Nose Against Austria

June 18, (THEWILL)- France and Real Madrid forward, Kylian Mbappe, will likely have to wear a protective mask after suffering a broken nose in the 1-0 Euro 2024 victory over Austria on Monday night. The 25-year-old captain was forced off late on, after a sickening collision with Austria’s Kevin Danso.

Mbappe challenged for a high ball but was caught flush in the face by Danso’s shoulder, resulting in a heavy flow of blood from his nose. He immediately went down holding his face as concerned teammates and medical staff raced to his aid before he was stretchered off.

The French Football Federation confirmed after the game that Mbappe had suffered a nasal fracture. “Kylian Mbappe suffered a broken nose during the second half…Diagnosis confirmed during radiological examinations at the Duesseldorf hospital,” their statement read.

While Mbappe avoided needing surgery, he now faces a race against time to be fit for France’s crunch Euro 2024 clash against the Netherlands on Friday. The FFF said, “a mask will be made so as to allow the number 10 to consider resuming competition after a period devoted to treatment.”

The loss of Mbappe would be an enormous blow for Les Bleus given his talismanic presence. He was the star of their 2022 World Cup triumph, earning the Golden Ball award. His availability for the Netherlands game could be crucial in deciding who tops the group.
