June 16, (THEWILL)- Maryam Shettima aka Maryam Shetty has tied the knot with her lover. The 45-year-old national leader of #WeBelieve, an APC support group, tied the knot in a quiet Nikkai ceremony to Dr Adam Kaka, her former course mate while she was studying for her MSc in Sports Physiotherapy at the University of East London.
Maryam was one of the ministerial nominees from Kano State who was replaced by President Bola Tinubu, with Dr Mariya Mahmoud. The president was forced to replace her following the uproar that greeted the announcement of her name as a ministerial nominee. She was alleged to have underperformed in her roles as a member of the Team Field Operations of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Committee and as a member of the Youth and Women Presidential Campaign Team, specifically focusing on Strategic Communication, during the campaigns leading to the 2023 general elections.
A political and social activist, Maryam’s career in physiotherapy, combined with her social entrepreneurship and educational philanthropy, has earned her recognition as one of Africa’s influential young leaders. She has worked with top-tier athletes including world record holder, Jamaica’s Usain Bolt. She has an Honorary Degree from the ESGT University of Technology, Benin Republic.
She obtained a certificate and became a practitioner of Kingian Non-Violence, inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. from Emory University in the United States. She runs the ‘We Believe Movement,’ an independent, non-governmental initiative aimed at promoting a national rebirth based on viable ethos and active citizenship.
