May 03, (THEWILL) – Rio Ferdinand has been named as one of the Premier League Hall of Fame’s class of 2023 inductees, alongside former managers, Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger.
Ferdinand’s selection was made via a public vote and the English Premier League Awards Panel, which whittled down the shortlist of 15 players. Ferdinand, an iconic centre-back, is the eighth Manchester United player to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
During his illustrious career, he won six English Premier League titles, one UEFA Champions League, and two English League Cups. He was also a six-time Professional Football Association (PFA) Premier League Team of the Year member.
Upon receiving the news, Ferdinand expressed his delight, saying, “To be inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame alongside such a high calibre of players and to be able to say that I achieved my dream is special.” He also reflected on his humble beginnings and the long, arduous journey to his current position of distinction.
Other players on the shortlist include some illustrious names like Tony Adams, Ashley Cole, Gary Neville, Sol Campbell, Jermain Defoe, Michael Owen, Michael Carrick, Les Ferdinand, John Terry, Petr Cech, Yaya Toure, Andy Cole, Robbie Fowler, and Nemanja Vidic.
