August 20, (THEWILL) – The Sao Paulo police have decided not to indict Manchester United player, Antony, for alleged domestic violence against his ex-girlfriend, Gabriela Cavallin. The police investigation in Brazil found no evidence of a crime committed by the former Sao Paulo winger.
However, the athlete is still being investigated in England, as Cavallin has also accused Antony on European soil. DJ Gabriela Cavallin had filed a police report against the player in the city of Sao Paulo in June 2023, for insults, threats, deeds and psychological domestic violence.
After the end of the investigations in Brazil, the final report from the Women’s Police Station will now be analysed by the Public Prosecutor’s Office. The Public Prosecutor’s Office may give a different opinion to that of the Civil Police or close the case.
Despite the ongoing investigation in England, Antony is still featuring normally for United and was on the bench in their English Premier League win against Fulham.
The case highlights the complexities involved in domestic violence allegations, especially when they cross international borders. It remains to be seen how the investigation in England will unfold and whether any further action will be taken against the player.
