Man Utd Close To Decision On Greenwood’s Future

August 16, (THEWILL) – Manchester United have concluded their investigation into allegations made against Mason Greenwood in 2023.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the club said they are in the final stages of making a decision on the player’s future after a thorough inquiry over several months. THEWILL recalls that the 21-year-old was suspended by United after his arrest in January 2022 on suspicion of rape, assault and making threats to kill. All criminal charges were dropped in February this year but the club conducted its own investigation into the matter.

“The fact-finding phase of our investigation is now complete, and we are in the final stages of making a decision on Mason’s future,” the statement read. “That decision has not yet been made and is currently the subject of intensive internal deliberation.”

United said the inquiry has considered extensive evidence not available publicly, and that the perspective of the alleged victim has been central throughout. The club also acknowledged its responsibilities to Greenwood as a long-serving player and new father.

The final call on whether Greenwood has a future at Old Trafford rests with United’s CEO, according to the statement. Once made, the decision will be communicated to all stakeholders. Greenwood remains suspended indefinitely until a conclusion is reached.
