Man United Maintain Interest In Move For Wolves Midfielder Neves

January 05, (THEWILL) – Manchester United are still interested in Wolverhampton Wanderers’ midfielder Ruben Neves and are willing to make a January transfer window bid for him especially as Wolves are said to be willing to listen to bids and have told his agents that if their asking price is fulfilled, they will agree to a deal.

Wolves’ owners, Fosun, were receptive to the notion of selling Neves and Adama Traore to allow current manager Bruno Lage to reinvest in the team.

Neves has been with Wolves since 2017, when they astonished the footballing world by signing him from Porto for a club record £16 million while still in the Championship.

It now appears to be extremely good business, as a deal to sell Neves now would almost certainly double their money.

The Portuguese himself is now ready to move on. after establishing himself as a top Premier League performer. He is poised to showcase his abilities at a “bigger” club.

In the last year, Tottenham and Chelsea have both expressed interest in Neves, but the Red Devils have long been at the top of the line for his services, as their scouts have given him outstanding reviews and pushed hard for a transfer last summer.

Former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was interested, and the club scrutinised the details. Instead, when Cristiano Ronaldo, a Portuguese compatriot, became available, they turned their attention to the more famous number seven.

With Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes already at Old Trafford, United are confident that Neves will fit right in, especially because they have conducted extensive background checks on the 24-year-old.

United are considering adding a defensive midfielder to their team after players like Scott McTominay, Fred, and Nemanja Matic have struggled to adapt to numerous Premier League games thus far this season.

It is therefore unclear whether United would be willing to spend upwards of £30 million on a player in January with merely an interim manager in control.

Rangnick is said to believe that the midfield needs to be improved, and he is said to have proposed Amadou Haidara from his old team RB Leipzig.
