May 11, (THEWILL)- Manchester City temporarily went top of the English Premier League table with a dominant 4-0 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage, on Saturday. The victory set a new English record of 16 consecutive wins against a fellow top-flight opponent in all competitions.
Josko Gvardiol’s cool 13th-minute finish put City ahead after a neat one-two with Kevin De Bruyne. Despite chances for Erling Haaland, Bernardo Silva and Phil Foden, it remained 1-0 until the 59th minute when Foden slotted home not long after Fulham introduced Adama Traore to spark the hosts into action.
The defending champions sealed the three points in the final 20 minutes through a Gvardiol close-range effort and a Julian Alvarez penalty after Issa Diop’s red card. The win moves City two points clear of Arsenal at the top, with a game in hand.
For Fulham, it was a ninth successive home defeat to City since 2011 as Marco Silva’s men struggled to lay a glove on the slick visitors. Their wait for a first point against the champions since September 2011 goes on.
With seven straight wins, City are just two victories away from a fourth consecutive EPL title. Guardiola’s relentless side continues to make history in their pursuit of more silverware.
