July 18, (THEWILL) – Manchester City have completed the signing of 20-year-old Brazilian winger Savinho from French club Troyes for €40m.
The English Premier League champions finalised the deal as their first acquisition of the summer transfer window, looking ahead to the 2024/2025 season. Savinho has agreed to a five-year contract, keeping him at the Etihad Stadium until 2029.
The young talent gained attention during his loan spell at Girona last season, helping the Catalan side secure a third-place finish in La Liga and UEFA Champions League qualification. Girona, like Troyes, is part of the City Football Group (CFG) network of clubs, facilitating Savinho’s move to the EPL.
Upon joining, Savinho expressed his excitement about the opportunity to play for the current EPL and Club World Cup holders. He highlighted his anticipation of working under manager Pep Guardiola, whom he regards as one of the greatest coaches in football history. The Brazilian also mentioned his eagerness to meet the fans and his new teammates.
City’s Director of Football, Txiki Begiristain, praised Savinho’s potential and the excitement he is likely to bring to the club’s supporters. Begiristain noted the player’s remarkable achievements at Girona and his status as a full Brazil international, emphasising the club’s confidence in his abilities and future development under Guardiola’s guidance.
Savinho will wear the number 26 shirt, previously worn by Riyad Mahrez. The young winger’s arrival signals Manchester City’s intent to maintain their competitive edge in domestic and international competitions, as they aim to defend their EPL title and continue their success in the upcoming season.
