September 20, (THEWILL) – The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has applauded the intervention of military troops during the flood disaster in Borno last week, saying Nigeria appreciates their extraordinary role in saving those trapped following the incident.

Gen. Musa, who gave the commendation while addressing troops of the Joint Task Force Northeast (JTF) Operation Hadin Kai on Thursday, said the extra job they did outside their main duty was topnotch, adding that the troops’ intervention was professional and swift.

“We all appreciate the extra job you’ve done recently during the flood. The flood came suddenly but you responded promptly and professionally. The country is happy about your conduct, your attitude and your responses,” he told troops at Maimalari Cantonment, headquarters of the counter-terrorism joint operation.

He, however, reminded troops not to forget their main duty – to end insurgency and terrorism in the Northeast.

“Always remember that our main duty is to fight terrorists, that we will not relent. You should remain focused until we cut off the head of the snake,” he said.

He urged them not to forget their families and assured them that military authorities are working to enhance the salaries and allowances of personnel based on the current economic reality.

The CDS also paid a sympathy visit to the Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, and the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Garbai El-Kanemi. He urged the Governor not to be discouraged by the devastation and setbacks caused by the flood disaster.

Responding, Governor Zulum commended the efforts of the military in rescuing those trapped in their houses following the incident.

“We can’t thank you enough. We are eternally grateful for the role you played last week during a devastating flood in Maiduguri and Jere. May God bless the Nigerian Armed Forces,” he said.
