September 13, (THEWILL) – The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has donated heavy-duty trucks to support the evacuation of victims following the flood that ravaged Maiduguri city and its environs on Tuesday.
The flood, which affected 70 percent of Maiduguri metropolis and its adjoining communities, displaced over one million people and disrupted daily life, businesses and essential services such as schools and hospitals.
Air Component Commander of Operation Hadin Kai Joint Task Force Northeast, Air Commodore UU Idris, disclosed this when he visited the Shehu of Borno, His Royal Highness, Alh Umar Ibn Garbai El-kanemi, to sympathise with the people over the flood disaster.
He donated heavy-duty trucks and deployed NAF personnel to assist other security agencies in the evacuation of the flood victims in various areas affected.
As part of the assessment of the general situation, the Air Component Commander visited the Ngomari IDP Camp, which is the host community of the NAF Base in Maiduguri and rendered welfare assistance, including food, essential commodities and security to the IDPs.
Similarly, the NAF conducted an astounding medical outreach in response to the situation where over 2,000 victims with critical medical conditions were given free drugs and mosquito nets. Medical checkups and tests were also administered to the victims for optimal healthcare delivery.
The NAF Medical Team also assisted in taking delivery of one of the victims who gave birth on Wednesday night and is currently under maternity care at the camp.
Idris, who pledged more support and assistance to the flood victims, also visited the Monday Market, State Zoo, Cemetery, AVM AM Daggash (Rtd) resident and Unimaid amongst other places.
