August 25, (THEWILL) – Chelsea earned their first English Premier League victory under new manager, Enzo Maresca, with a 6-2 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux. The match, which took place on Sunday, saw Chelsea climb into the top half of the table.
The first half ended 2-2, with Nicolas Jackson and Cole Palmer, scoring for Chelsea, while Matheus Cunha and Jorgen Strand Larsen found the net for Wolves. However, the second half belonged to Chelsea, with Noni Madueke scoring a hat-trick in just 14 minutes, all assisted by Palmer.
João Félix, a recent addition to the Chelsea squad, added the final goal for the visitors. Wolves had two goals disallowed, one each for Cunha and Mario Lemina, but their defense struggled to contain Chelsea’s attack throughout the match.
The victory marks a historic moment for Maresca, who became the first manager in EPL history to see his team score six goals in his debut away game. Madueke’s performance was particularly notable, with the player now having scored more goals at Molineux (three) than at Stamford Bridge (two in 18 games).
Even if Wolves were expected to perform better than the result indicated, Gary O’Neil’s team now finds themselves in 19th place after two consecutive defeats.
