August 23, (THEWILL) – Olympique Lyonnais has put most of its squad up for sale to meet financial targets before the transfer window closes, according to French newspaper L’Equipe. The Ligue 1 club aims to raise €100 million, with €75 million still needed to reach their goal.

The club management has reportedly informed players that almost everyone is available for transfer at the right price. This decision comes after Lyon spent €134 million in the last two months, more than any other French club. Their biggest purchase was defender Moussa Niakhate from Nottingham Forest for a club record €34 million in July.

Lyon had previously assured Ligue 1’s financial authority they would accumulate €100 million in sales this summer to avoid further restrictions. The club refinanced over €300 million of debt last December.

Owned by Eagle Football Group, Lyon is part of a portfolio that includes teams from Brazil, Belgium, and England. John Textor, the American businessman controlling Eagle Football Group, has shown interest in selling his stake in Crystal Palace to buy Everton.

The club’s financial strategy will likely impact its performance in the 2024/2025 season, with potential changes to the squad composition before the transfer window closes.
