Luiz Departs Aston Villa For New Challenge At Juventus

July 01, (THEWILL) – Juventus have completed the signing of Brazilian midfielder, Douglas Luiz, from Aston Villa for a reported £42.3 million. The 26-year-old has agreed to a five-year contract with the Italian club, marking the end of his successful five-year stint at Villa Park.
Luiz’s departure is part of Aston Villa’s efforts to comply with the English Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules, which permit losses of up to £105 million over three years. The midfielder was a key figure in Villa’s surprising fourth-place finish in the EPL last season and leaves the club having scored 22 goals in 204 appearances.
The Brazil international, who helped his country win a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics, expressed his excitement about joining Juventus in a social media video. “I’m really happy to be a Bianconero. I can’t wait to play in the Allianz Stadium. See you soon and Forza Juve!” Luiz said.
Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has already begun restructuring his squad, with the club selling Tim Iroegbunam to Everton for £9 million and Omari Kellyman to Chelsea for £19 million. Villa have also signed Chelsea’s Ian Maatsen and Everton’s Lewis Dobbin, while rumours persist about Jacob Ramsey’s potential move to Tottenham Hotspur.
Luiz joins a Juventus side that finished third in Serie A last season, 24 points behind champions Inter Milan. The Brazilian’s arrival is expected to bolster the Italian giants’ midfield as they aim to challenge for the title in the upcoming season.
