Lookman’s Goal Not Enough As Leicester Fall 2-1 To Wolves

February 21, (THEWILL) – On Sunday, Leicester City’s Premier League winless streak was extended to five games after a ruthless Wolves team defeated the Foxes 2-1 at Molineux, piling some pressure on Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers.

The Foxes had their moments of brilliance, but a lack of ruthlessness in front of goal and the same old troubles at the back saw them lose for the eighth time this season. Wolves, meanwhile, have climbed to seventh position, six points behind fourth-placed Manchester United with two games in hand.

Within 10 minutes of kickoff, Leicester’s usually shaky defence had crumbled. When the ball broke to him on the edge of the box, Ruben Neves made no mistake, stroking it into the bottom corner to hand the home side the lead.

Leicester fought back well after falling behind, but some bad finishing kept them from drawing level. However, Ademola Lookman equalised right before the half-time break.

Youri Tielemans was crucial in the build-up, splitting Wolves open with a fantastic pass that found Marc Albrighton on the run, who then presented the Super Eagles’ player with the ball he needed to slide home.

Lookman’s aggressive running continued to cause problems for Leicester in the second half, with Tielemans letting a good chance go begging shortly after the hour mark.

When Daniel Podence stepped up to score a rare Premier League goal 24 minutes from time, however, the visitors rued not making their dominance count earlier on. Wolves cleverly played the ball to the small attacker, whose exquisite effort found the bottom corner.

Wanderers retreated behind a low block after that, and were mainly effective in repelling the onslaught that followed from Rogers’ side.

Wolves will face direct rivals Arsenal and West Ham in their bid to return to European football, while a dejected Leicester must pick themselves up and finish the job in their Europa Conference League playoff clash on Thursday.
