BEVERLY HILLS, February 10, (THEWILL) – Jurgen Klopp, German manager of the English Premier League champions, Liverpool, will be absent from the funeral of his mother due to Coronavirus travel restrictions in place in his home country especially for those in regions such as the United Kingdom.

As previously reported by THEWILL, health and safety regulations in Germany restrict travellers arriving from some countries it has “red-listed,” such as the UK, due to concerns about new and more infectious variants of COVID-19.

These regulations leave Klopp no passage into his home country and he will most likely miss his Mum’s funeral.

The 53-year-old paid tribute to his mother in the German newspaper Schwarzwaelder Bote, writing: “She meant everything to me. She was a real mum in the best sense of the word.

“The fact that I can’t be at the funeral is due to the terrible times, as soon as the circumstances allow, we will hold a wonderful commemoration.”

The coach was often open about his parents, and in the documentary, “End of the Storm,” released at the end of 2020, he had said about Elizabeth Klopp: “My mum was just a typical Black Forest mum, caring, loving, full of trust and faith. Whatever happened out there, you would come home and she loved you anyway.”

Previously, when discussing his faith and his father, he admitted that he wished his father had been alive to witness how far he had gone and what he had achieved in football. Norbert Klopp, Jurgen’s father, died in 2000.

Of his father, Klopp said: “I would today be able to have a brilliant relationship with him because I’m now old enough and strong enough to say what I want to say. So now we could have completely cool conversations about all the things that happened, but unfortunately we cannot do that.

“But I’m a Christian, I believe in God living in heaven and that he’s there, annoying other people, telling them they have to watch this game with him. I’m 100 percent sure about that.

“If he had seen how my life turned out after I started as a manager, I think he would have been pretty happy.”

The woman he described as one who “meant everything” to him, Elizabeth Klopp, died aged 81.
