November 05, (THEWILL) – Liverpool winger, Luis Diaz, has made an emotional appeal for the release of his father, who was kidnapped at gunpoint in Colombia last week.

The 26-year-old’s parents were abducted by the left-wing guerrilla group National Liberation Army (ELN), on October 28. His mother has since been found, but his father remains missing.

After coming off the bench to score a last-gasp equaliser for Liverpool against Luton Town, Diaz revealed a t-shirt with the message “Freedom for Dad”. He followed this with a desperate Instagram post begging the ELN for his father’s release.

“Every second, every minute, our anguish grows,” he wrote. “My mother, my brothers and I are desperate, distressed and without words to describe what we are feeling. This suffering will only end when we have him back home. In the name of love and compassion, we ask that you reconsider your actions and allow us to recover him.”

Diaz thanked supporters in Colombia and around the world for their messages of solidarity during this “difficult time”. His appearance against Luton was his first since the kidnappings eight days ago.
