October 14, (THEWILL) – The Libya Football Federation (LFF) has denied accusations of deliberate interference after the Nigerian national team was stranded for over 15 hours at Al Abraq Airport upon arrival. In a statement released, on Monday, the LFF cited routine air traffic control protocols, security checks, and logistical challenges as potential factors affecting air travel.
The LFF emphasised that such incidents are not uncommon in international air travel and can occur due to standard airport procedures worldwide. They expressed concern about the reports surrounding the Nigerian team’s flight diversion ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Libya but maintained that the incident was not intentional.
The Libyan organisation also pointed out that their own national team faced significant challenges upon arrival in Nigeria for the third match of the Africa Cup of Nations qualification last week. Despite these difficulties, the LFF stated that they did not make public accusations or question the integrity of the Nigerian authorities.
The LFF stressed their commitment to treating all visiting teams with respect and dignity, highlighting Libya’s reputation for hospitality. They expressed hope that the misunderstanding could be resolved with goodwill and understanding, reaffirming their dedication to promoting unity, sportsmanship, and friendship in football.
