October 13, (THEWILL) – Unknown gunmen, on Saturday, killed a councillorship candidate, Adeleke Adeyinka of the All Progressive Congress for Ward 15, Abeokuta South Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The gruesome murder occurred at a local relaxation centre at Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta, where he was having fun with his friends before the assailants attacked and killed him.
Although the motive behind his murder is still sketchy, eyewitness accounts said that his death might not be unconnected with his political ambition in the November 16 council elections in the state.
A witness said that his killers came to the local joint at Jide Jones area of Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta, in a tinted car, shot Adeyinka and clubbed him to death with stones.
Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Omolola Odutola, when contacted, confirmed the gruesome murder of the victim.
Odutola said that the police had launched an investigation into the incident to unravel the mystery behind the youth leader’s demise in order to arrest perpetrators and bring them to book.
“This senseless killing will not go unpunished, We urge anyone with information to come forward”, the PPRO said.
His death had caused panic among residents of the area and induced fear in the minds of politicians seeking elective positions in the forthcoming Local Government poll in the state.
