October 20, (THEWILL) – Victor Boniface, the Nigerian striker for Bayer Leverkusen, shared footage of a vehicle collision on social media on Sunday. The 23-year-old footballer posted images and video showing what appeared to be a severely damaged black sports car, along with footage of himself with visible injuries.
In the video, Boniface could be seen looking into the camera before displaying what seemed to be blood dripping from his arm. The posts were subsequently removed from his social media accounts. Following the incident, Boniface wrote on his social media platforms, “God is the greatest” and “God says my time has not come.”
German publication Bild reported on Sunday that a source close to the striker stated Boniface was “doing well considering the circumstances and is only slightly injured.” At the time of writing, Bayer Leverkusen had not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident.
Boniface, who joined Leverkusen last season, has been instrumental in the club’s success. He contributed significantly to Leverkusen’s unbeaten league and cup double campaign, which marked their first-ever Bundesliga title. This achievement also coincided with Boniface receiving his debut call-up to the Nigerian national team.
The forward’s form has continued into the current season, with seven goals in 10 appearances across all competitions. In Saturday’s match against Eintracht Frankfurt, despite missing a penalty, Boniface scored the winning goal in a 2-1 home victory. Leverkusen’s next fixture is an away match against French club Brest in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.
