August 28, (THEWILL) – On Saturday, the 10-man Blues defeated Leicester City 2-1 thanks in large part to the first two goals of Raheem Sterling for Chelsea.
The former Manchester City attacker scored twice in the second half to help Chelsea return to winning ways in the English Premier League and open his own account at Stamford Bridge. But, following a 3-0 loss to Leeds United last week, Thomas Tuchel, who was serving a touchline ban, watched this game from the stands.
His team appeared to be in for another difficult day when Conor Gallagher was dismissed. However, Leicester’s recent poor form prevailed as they fell to their third league loss in four games, only responding via Harvey Barnes after Sterling had scored his debut brace for the Blues.
Youri Tielemams, who showed so much ingenuity for the Foxes in that second half, would probably have set up an equaliser if Leicester had scored one. The Belgian finished with two blocked shots, six crucial passes, two effective crosses, and six tackles underlying why he is wanted at the Emirates.
After losing to Leeds 3-0, Chelsea’s narrow victory helps the Blues move up in the standings to sixth place. Despite their best attempts late in the game, Leicester is still winless and will plummet to the bottom of the standings if West Ham wins their next match. There are worrying indicators for the Foxes, but with the fight and character they displayed in their pursuit of an equaliser, they still have some fight left in them.
