August 12, (THEWILL) – OGC Nice manager, Francesco Farioli, was denied a victory in his first match in charge, as the club drew 1-1 with Lille on Sunday.
A stoppage time equaliser from Lille’s Bafodé Diakité spoiled what would have been a dream start for Farioli, who took over as Nice manager this summer. Lille looked dangerous early on and Nice had to grow into the game. Nice took the lead in the first half through a goal from Gaëtan Laborde, with Terem Moffi on the assist.
The second half saw fewer chances for both sides. Nice goalkeeper, Marcin Bulka, made some key saves to keep his team in it, denying efforts from Jonathan David and Cabella. Neither side could find the breakthrough and the match looked to be heading for a Nice victory. However, a last gasp chance for Lille in injury time saw them steal a point.
Diakité rose highest to head in the late equaliser and deny Farioli a win in his first match in charge of Nice. In the end, Nice will be disappointed not to get all three points. But Farioli will still take positives from his first match, as Nice looked dangerous on the counter attack and coped well for most of the match. He will hope to build on this performance when Nice face Strasbourg next week.
