November 04, (THEWILL) – A late goal from Bruno Fernandes was enough to give Manchester United a 1-0 victory away at Fulham on Saturday, despite another unconvincing performance from Erik Ten Hag’s side.
The game looked to be heading for a goalless draw until Fernandes curled home a shot from the edge of the box in the 91st minute. It was a cruel blow for Fulham, who had matched United for long periods and created the better chances in the second half.
United started brightly and thought they had taken an early lead when Scott McTominay tapped home, only for it to be ruled out for offside against Harry Maguire. After that, neither side created many clear openings in a scrappy first half.
The second period followed a similar pattern, with both teams struggling to break each other down. Fulham looked the more dangerous with Alex Iwobi’s breaking run resulting in a wide shot and when United threatened, Bernd Leno was there to deny Antony Martial and João Palhinha going close from distance.
However, just as it seemed United would have to settle for a point, up stepped Fernandes to clinch the three points. It maintains the pressure on Ten Hag after back-to-back defeats and lifts United to fifth in the table.
