September 07, (THEWILL) – Senegal and Burkina Faso drew 1-1 in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Diamniadio Olympic Stadium on Friday. Sadio Mane gave Senegal an early lead, but Ousseni Bouda equalised for Burkina Faso in stoppage time.
The Lions of Teranga started strongly, with Mane scoring in the sixth minute after capitalising on a defensive error. Senegal continued to dominate possession throughout the match, but struggled to extend their advantage.
Burkina Faso grew into the game in the second half, forcing Senegal goalkeeper Seny Dieng into action. Dieng made important saves in the 58th and 74th minutes to preserve his team’s lead.
Despite controlling the latter stages of the match, Senegal could not find a second goal. Their failure to kill off the game was punished when Bouda scored from a free-kick deep into added time, earning the Stallions an unexpected point.
The result follows Senegal’s recent World Cup qualifying matches, where they drew 1-1 with DR Congo and beat Mauritania 1-0 in June. Both teams will now look ahead to their next Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers as they aim to reach the 2025 tournament.
