BEVERLY HILLS, September 13, (THEWILL) – Construction giant, Julius Berger has resumed work at the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, with the rehabilitation of the popular “Long Bridge” on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

A correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) who visited the site on Sunday reports seeing heavy equipment including earth moving machines, trucks and heaps of laterite, soil base and crushed stones on ground at the Wawa Bus Stop end of the highway.

A site engineer who declined to be named said the firm had been gradually moving its equipment back to site since Sept. 1.

The company had suspended work due to lack of funds from the federal government.

Efforts to speak with the Project Manager at Julius Berger, Mr. Wolfgang Panza, failed as he was said to be away to Germany on vacation.

The Federal Ministry of Works representative on the project, Mr. Kayode Ibrahim, declined comments but confirmed that work had begun on the site.

“I don’t want to say anything. Julius Berger is on site working, you can go to the site and see that we are working,” he said.

The N167 billion contract was awarded to Julius Berger and Reynolds Construction Company in 2013 by the past Goodluck Jonathan administration with a completion period of 48 months.
