August 18, (THEWILL) – La Liga’s request to have Kylian Mbappe’s new Paris Saint-Germain contract cancelled has been denied by the Administrative Court of Paris.
As THEWILL reported, Mbappe defied expectations and decided to sign a lucrative new extension in Paris rather than sign a contract with Real Madrid of La Liga. This decision set off a heated exchange of words between the two leagues, and La Liga vowed to have the contract annulled for violating Financial Fair Play and other contract regulations.
The court’s decision to deny a contract termination on the grounds that there was insufficient evidence of rule violations has now been confirmed by news reports from Paris.
La Liga claimed that the LFP, the body responsible for Ligues 1 and 2, should never have granted the extension, claiming that PSG had lied about their financial situation in order to extend Mbappe’s contract through the use of “falsified balance sheets” and “voluntarily far-fetched projected budgets.”
The motion, which was lodged back in July, sought to have Mbappe’s contract cancelled instantly, but the court did not think the matter was crucial enough to pursue right away, delaying the case until the middle of August. Now that a decision has been made and Mbappe’s contract will stand.
