October 17, (THEWILL) – Australian tennis star, Nick Kyrgios, has fallen completely off the ATP rankings after going almost a full year without a tour-level win.

The 28-year-old has played just one match in 2023, losing in the opening round of the Stuttgart Open in June. His last victory came over 12 months ago at the 2022 Japan Open in Tokyo. With the points from that tournament now expired, Kyrgios has zero ranking points next to his name.

His career-high ranking was world number 13 back in 2016. Last season he reached the top 20 again after an impressive summer that saw him claim singles and doubles titles at the Citi Open and reach his first ever Grand Slam final at Wimbledon. Kyrgios described himself as a “transformed” player but has since been plagued by knee and wrist injuries.

After undergoing knee surgery in January, Kyrgios missed most of the first half of 2022. He was forced to withdraw from Wimbledon and the US Open, the latter of which he said he was “devastated” to miss out on. Kyrgios has a protected ranking of 21 which will allow him direct entry into tournaments when he returns.

The Australian is entered into an exhibition event in Seoul in November but has pulled out of similar competitions this year. He will be hoping to get back to full fitness in time for the 2024 Australian Open.
