January 19, (THEWILL) – A highly entertaining Africa Cup of Nations match between Egypt and Ghana finished 2-2 on Friday, although the result was somewhat overshadowed by a concerning first half injury to Egypt talisman, Mohamed Salah.

In Salah’s absence, Ghana took a late first-half lead as West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus slickly engineered space on the edge of the box before firing clinically into the bottom corner.

Egypt fought back valiantly after the break, however, and equalised through Omar Marmoush in the 69th minute, after the winger drilled the ball into the net from a tight angle on the left to bring the Pharaohs back into the contest.

The Black Stars retook the lead just moments later as Kudus grabbed his second, putting control back into the hands of the West Africans. However, the Pharaohs showed spirit to bounce back again, with Mostafa Mohamed prodding home after sharp work down the right from Trezeguet.

The result leaves Group B fascinatingly poised, but Egypt fans will be sweating over the fitness of Salah after he limped off late in the first half with an apparent muscle injury. Salah looked emotional as he handed the captain’s armband over, and both his nation and Liverpool face an anxious wait for a diagnosis.
