Klopp Speaks On Liverpool’s Shock Caicedo Decision, Record Deal

August 11, (THEWILL) – Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, has confirmed the club has agreed on a deal to sign Ecuadorian midfielder, Moises Caicedo, from Brighton and Hove Albion.

The move comes as a surprise after Liverpool pulled out of a deal for Jude Bellingham earlier this summer due to the high valuation of the Englishman. Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Klopp admitted the unplanned sales of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to clubs in Saudi Arabia gave Liverpool unexpected funds to pursue Caicedo.

“We didn’t expect a couple of things happening in the summer – Hendo, Fab, stuff like this. We didn’t think about this before the summer, to be honest, and when it happened, we gave it a go,” he said. The Reds boss went on to say he knew little about the specifics of the Caicedo deal, stressing he had “no idea” if the player was due for a medical on Friday.

Before turning their attention to Caicedo, Liverpool had seen multiple bids rejected by Southampton for Romeo Lavia. The south coast club are expected to accept a £48 million offer from Chelsea for the Belgian youngster.

When asked if signing Caicedo would end their interest in Lavia, Klopp simply urged patience. “Let’s talk about that if it happens,” he said. “Let’s do it step by step, let’s see what happens in the next hours or days and then go from there.”
