April 28, (THEWILL) – Ahead of their English Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, said that his team will welcome the opportunity to qualify for the Europa League to get the most out of a lacklustre season.
Liverpool are currently in seventh place, seven points behind fourth-placed Manchester United, who have a game in hand, and the Reds are increasing unlikely to qualify for the UCL. Klopp acknowledged the season has been a learning curve, stating: “If it is Europa League, it is Europa League. I want to play the best possible football.”
Liverpool have lacked consistency this season, but a 2-1 win over West Ham on Wednesday gave them their first three straight league wins of the year. Klopp has urged his team to remain focused and emphasised the importance of winning. On Sunday, they will face European qualifying rivals Tottenham, who are without a win in their last three games and suffered a 6-1 defeat against Newcastle United last Sunday.
Despite Tottenham’s recent struggles, Klopp is aware of their threat on the counter-attack and has urged his team to be prepared for the best possible Tottenham side. Klopp also stated that midfielder Naby Keita is likely to return to training on Friday, while defender Ibrahima Konate is available for selection.
The EPL matchday 34 fixture is on Sunday at Anfield and kickoff is at 4:30 pm local time.
