October 09, (THEWILL) – Jurgen Klopp, former Liverpool manager, has been appointed as the new head of global soccer at Red Bull. The German tactician is set to commence his role on January 1, 2025, marking his first position since departing from Liverpool at the conclusion of the previous season.
In this newly created role, Klopp will not be involved in the day-to-day operations of Red Bull’s clubs. Instead, he will provide strategic guidance, focusing on supporting individual sporting directors, global scouting, and coach development across Red Bull’s international football network.
Klopp expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating his passion for football remains undiminished despite the change in role. He aims to develop and improve the football talent within the Red Bull organisation, leveraging the company’s elite knowledge and experience while exploring innovative approaches to the sport.
Oliver Mintzlaff, Red Bull’s chief executive of corporate projects and investments, lauded Klopp’s appointment as the strongest signing in Red Bull’s soccer history. He highlighted Klopp’s extraordinary skills and charisma, anticipating that the former Liverpool manager will be a game-changer for Red Bull’s involvement in international soccer.
During his tenure at Liverpool, Klopp led the team to numerous successes, including the UEFA Champions League title in 2018/2019 and the English Premier League in 2019/2020. His new role at Red Bull will see him overseeing clubs such as RB Leipzig and New York Red Bulls, with an official unveiling expected at a press conference next year.
