Klopp Hopeful Liverpool’s Recent Wins Will Boost Chances Against Real Madrid

February 20, (THEWILL) – Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is hopeful that his team’s recent morale-boosting victories will bode well for their upcoming UEFA Champions League match against Real Madrid.

Liverpool failed to win any of their first four league games of 2023, but they have recorded two 2-0 wins against Everton and Newcastle United ahead of their return to European action on Tuesday against the Spanish champions they have failed to defeat in any of their last six meetings.

Klopp acknowledges the threat that the 14-time European champions pose at Anfield, but believes Liverpool’s recent victories have come at the perfect time for the upcoming game. “Four weeks ago, it would have been different. Life is all about timing, and maybe we found our feet right in time for this game,” Klopp admitted.

The last time Liverpool faced Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Paris, Madrid emerged victorious with a 1-0 scoreline. Klopp has recently re-watched the match and was impressed by Madrid’s composure under pressure. “We played this final in Paris and I didn’t watch it since then, until this weekend. I realised why it didn’t watch it back, it was proper torture. We played a good game and could have won the game. You could see in this game how experienced Madrid are, how little they fuss when the other team has chances.”

Madrid has gone unbeaten in their last two visits to Anfield for Champions League fixtures, having been thrashed 4-0 on their first visit in March 2009.
