Klopp Douses Speculations About German National Team Job

SAN FRANCISCO, November 22, (THEWILL) – Jurgen Klopp, manager of English Premier League champions Liverpool, has downplayed the possibility of taking the Germany job in the foreseeable future. He made it emphatically clear that he had his hands full at a job that he was particularly fond of.

Klopp has been pencilled down as one of the leading favourites to replace embattled Joachim Low especially after last week’s humiliating 6-0 thrashing by Spain in their UEFA Nations League fixture.

The loss was Germany’s biggest defeat in almost 90 years and remains their biggest ever competitive defeat on record. And speculation about Low’s successor ahead of next summer’s European Championship has not waned despite reassurances by the German FA of their faith in the national coach.

Clearly, Klopp wants no part in the drama. The 53-year-old, who led Liverpool to glory in the Champions League and the Premier League in the past two seasons, has immediately quashed any link with the nation’s team job.

“Maybe in the future but now, no, because I have no time,” the German said ahead of Liverpool’s game with Leicester City on Sunday night.

“I also have a job – a pretty intense job by the way. I am not sure if anybody has asked me but if they don’t know I have a job here at Liverpool – even if the weather is bad again!

“I like it and I am responsible for a lot of things here so I will not go and search for another challenge.’

Klopp is contracted to the Anfield club until 2024, having signed a new deal last December, but has made clear his intention to return to Germany when it expires.

Germany legend Lothar Matthaus has led the calls for Klopp to replace Low as manager of Die Mannschaft ahead of Euro 2020.

These speculations and calls aside, Low received a vote of confidence from the German Football Association (DFB) President Fritz Keller the day after the loss in Seville.
