July 31, (THEWILL) – Former Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, has dismissed rumours of an imminent return to coaching, including speculation about the vacant England position.
Speaking at a German Football Coaches Association meeting in Wuerzburg on Wednesday, the 57-year-old stated: “Today, that is it for me as a coach.”
Klopp, who left Liverpool at the end of the 2023/2024 season citing exhaustion after 23 years in club management, emphasised that his decision to step away was not made lightly. He said: “I did not decide to stop on a whim, it was a general decision.”
The German coach had been linked to several high-profile vacancies, including the England job following Gareth Southgate’s departure after the Three Lions’ loss in the Euro 2024 final.
While Klopp ruled out an immediate return to coaching, he did not completely close the door on future involvement in football. “I am too young to just play padel tennis and spend time with my grandchildren,” he remarked. “I still want to work in football and help people with my experience and contacts. Let us see what else there is for me.”
During his tenure at Liverpool, Klopp achieved significant success, ending the club’s 30-year wait for an English Premier League title. He also led the team to three UEFA Champions League finals, winning one, and secured an FA Cup, two League Cups, and a UEFA Supercup. Prior to his time at Liverpool, Klopp managed Borussia Dortmund, winning two league titles and reaching the 2013 UCL final.
Klopp joked about the persistent rumours linking him to various coaching positions, saying: “At the moment there is nothing job-wise. No club, no country. A few people must not have heard that part.” For now, the former Liverpool boss is focusing on enjoying his break from management. “I am looking for peace and quiet, I am one hundred percent in the here and now and I am enjoying it.”
