September 10, (THEWILL) – Norway and Arsenal captain, Martin Odegaard, sustained an ankle injury during Norway’s 2-1 Nations League victory over Austria on Monday. The 25-year-old midfielder left the field in the second half after colliding with Austria’s Christoph Baumgartner.

Norway manager, Stale Solbakken, expressed concern about the severity of Odegaard’s injury. “Martin Odegaard’s injury looked bad in the dressing room. He had no chance to continue and we know it was an ankle sprain,” Solbakken told Norwegian TV 2. He added that the outcome could be more positive if the ligaments are not torn.

Norway’s team doctor, Ola Sand, provided an update on Odegaard’s condition. “Martin is doing quite well now. He got a small ankle sprain. We will see throughout the evening and tomorrow what happens next,” Sand stated. He mentioned the possibility of using ultrasound for examination and potentially scheduling an MRI scan if needed.

The injury comes at a crucial time for Arsenal, with important matches against Tottenham, Atalanta, and Manchester City on the horizon. If Odegaard’s injury proves serious, he could miss these key fixtures, potentially impacting Arsenal’s performance in both domestic and European competitions.

Norway currently sits second in League B Group 3 of the Nations League, level on four points with Slovenia. Their next match is scheduled for October 10 against Slovenia, but Odegaard’s participation remains uncertain pending further medical assessment.
