BEVERLY HILLS, June 18 (THEWILL) – The Police, on Thursday, said the British High Commission in Nigeria confirmed that Senator Buruji Kashamu was arrested and tried in a United Kingdom criminal court.
The Police in a statement by the its Public Relations Officer, CP Emmanuel Ojukwu, in Abuja, said the clarification followed enquiry concerning the status of Kashamu’s legal battles in the United Kingdom and United States.
“The police, thereafter, sought relevant clarifications from the British High Commission.
“The commission confirmed that Kashamu was indeed arrested and tried in the United Kingdom criminal court. But the court was not satisfied that Kashamu had a case to answer,’’ the statement said.
The statement stressed that the commission’s clarification did not derogate from extradition request by United States’ relevant departments, and agencies of government in Nigeria.
The police further said the statement was issued purely in connection to the extradition battles of Kashamu with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
