July 03, (THEWILL) – The Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions, Kano/Jigawa States Council, has asked the Kano State Government to immediately implement the 25 percent and 35 percent salary increments for staff of Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, and Yusuf Maitama Sule University.

The Chairman of the Council, Abdulfatah Yusuf, and its Secretary, Auwalu Muhammad Yakasai, made the request in a statement issued to newsmen in Kano on Wednesday.

The Council said the salaries should be implemented for its members in the two universities, as they had already been implemented by the Federal Government and some state-owned universities.

The Council also urged the State Government to pay the outstanding minimum wage arrears it owed staff of the state-owned universities.

Similarly, the union demanded the settlement of senior staff excess workload arrears owed to staff of Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, as well as the payment of promotion arrears for 2021 and 2022 to the deserving staff of the university.

The Council also requested the payment of Hazard Arrears from January 2016 to June 2019 owed to staff of the Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, “as applicable.”

It then asked the State Government to constitute the Governing Councils of the state-owned universities “as stipulated in the universities’ Miscellaneous Acts and the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, to ensure effective management and governance of the institutions.”

“We have exercised patience and constraint, engaging in constructive dialogue with the government. However, the continued delay in addressing these issues has left us with no choice but to raise our voices and demand action.

“Failure to address these issues may lead to industrial action, which we hope to avoid,” the union added.
