BEVERLY HILLS, April 21, (THEWILL) – One of the key proponents of the faltering new European Super League, the Serie A club Juventus, has admitted defeat with a statement published on Wednesday that said that while they remain committed to the idea of the Super League, they do not believe it can go ahead in its current form, as the critics exactly frowned at.

THEWILL recalls that Andrea Agnelli, the President of Juventus, was one of the principal driving forces behind the project and this admission certainly sounds the death knell of the Super League as announced.

In an officially worded statement to signal their intention to keep their commitment to the new League, they alsofelt the need to remind clubs that the processes of their withdrawals were not finished simply by online posts.

The statement read: “With reference to the press release published by Juventus Football Club S.P.A. on 19 April 2021, relating to the proposed creation of the Super League, and the ensuing public debate, the issuer clarifies to be aware of the request and intentions otherwise expressed by certain clubs to withdraw from this project, although the necessary procedures envisaged by the agreement among the clubs have not been completed.

“In this context, while Juventus remains convinced of the soundness of the project’s sport, commercial and legal premises, it believes that at present there are limited chances that the project be completed in the form originally conceived.

“Juventus remains committed to pursuing the creation of long-term value for the Company and the entire football industry.”

The slate of withdrawals from clubs across England, Italy and Spain has made it impossible to continue with the operation of the new European Super League as the initial founding members conceived. All six EPL clubs withdrew their involvements and Atletico Madrid in Spain and Inter Milan in Italy are following suit.

That is why the admission by Juventus’ President is a significant development in the circumstances that have come out of the crisis of the past 48 hours.
