May 22, (THEWILL) – Juventus have been hit with a significant blow as they were penalised 10 points in the Serie A standings by the Federal Court of Appeal of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC).

This decision comes after a January ruling that initially imposed a 15-point deduction, which was subsequently overturned in April. The new investigation now focuses on the Italian club’s historical transfer dealings.

Following their appeal, eight executives, including former Bianconeri Vice President, Pavel Nedved, have been acquitted and cleared of any wrongdoing.

The FIGC’s statement reads: “The Corte Federale d’Appello, chaired by Ida Raiola, sanctioned the Bianconeri club with ten penalty points in the league table to be served in the current football season. The Court also acquitted Pavel Nedved, Paolo Garimberti, Assia Grazioli Venier, Caitlin Mary Hughes, Daniela Marilungo, Francesco Roncaglio, and Enrico Vellano of the charges.”

The timing of the ruling is particularly unfavourable for Juventus, as it comes just before their match against Empoli on Monday night. With the deduction of points, Massimiliano Allegri’s team will now slide down to seventh place in the league standings, having previously occupied the second spot.

Reacting to the news, Juventus’ Chief Football Officer, Francesco Calvo, expressed disappointment, stating: “The first impressions are negative. We’re not satisfied. We expected it would arrive before the game. It’s too soon to make any further comment. We’ll put out a statement soon. First, we need to read the written reasons to understand what margin there is for another appeal.”
