Jegou Suspended By La Rochelle Over Failed Drug Test

October 12, (THEWILL) – La Rochelle flanker, Oscar Jegou, who won the Under-20 World Championship with France, has been suspended as a precaution after testing positive for cocaine, the current European champions announced on Thursday.

The 20-year-old informed La Rochelle managers of the positive test and expressed regret for consuming cocaine in a festive, private setting outside of the La Rochelle group, according to a statement from the Top 14 club.

The statement said the news came as “a real shock” to La Rochelle, which prioritises the education and development of its young players. However, it also illustrates the powerful rise of this social scourge, the club said.

“This reality check will lead us to strengthen our internal prevention and control system to a maximum to deal with this threat, which preys particularly on our young people today,” the statement read.

Jegou played La Rochelle’s first three Top 14 matches this season, starting two and scoring a try against Lyon.
