May 29, (THEWILL) – Ons Jabeur demonstrated her grit and determination by overcoming a spirited challenge from Camila Osorio, to book her place in the third round of the French Open on Wednesday. The eighth seed prevailed 6-3 1-6 6-3 in a hard-fought encounter on the Parisian clay.
The opening set saw Jabeur in sublime form, blending power and finesse to keep Osorio firmly on the back foot. However, a fall in the second set disrupted her rhythm, allowing the Colombian to mount a comeback by claiming the second set 6-1 as Jabeur’s unforced error count escalated.
With the match delicately poised, both players struggled on serve in the decider but it was Jabeur, who raised her intensity when it mattered most. After establishing a 4-1 lead, she remained composed to wrap up proceedings with an impressive 31 winners.
The result extends Jabeur’s head-to-head record against Osorio to 3-0, though this was the first time the 22-year-old Colombian had taken a set off the Tunisian trailblazer across their three career meetings.
Jabeur’s quest for a maiden Grand Slam title continues as she marches into the third round at Roland Garros, setting up a potential clash with last year’s finalist Coco Gauff further down the line.
