Insurgency: FG To Review Counter-terrorism Plan – Wakil

… Says President Jonathan Worried By Incessant Killings

BEVERLY HILLS, January 12, (THEWILL) – Worried by the continued Boko Haram attacks in the Northeast with the attendant loss of lives and property on a massive scale, the Federal Government is set to review its counter-terrorism plan in order to completely rout the insurgents.

The Minister of State for Power, Hon. Mohammed Wakil, disclosed this Monday in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, during a condolence and sympathy visit to the people of the state on behalf of President Goodluck Jonathan.

According to the Minister, the continuous insurgents attacks in the Northeast have been a major source of worry to President Jonathan and the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He said the Presidency is deeply worried by the spate of killings including the Baga killings reported to have claimed about 2,000 lives.

According to Wakil, ” I bring the condolence and grief of Mr. President to the good people of Borno. We were all in pain going by the unrestrained savagery unleashed on our people by the sect. We are in sorrow going by the international dimension involved in the insurgency, Mr. President conveyed his condolence.”

The minister therefore declared that the PDP-led Federal Government was determined to end the Boko Haram insurgency very soon, stressing that the Goodluck Jonathan administration was reviewing and enhancing its counter-terrorism plan with a view to taming the insurgency.
On the ongoing distribution of Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) in the state by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Wakil said the exercise should not foreclose the pains of the people.

He disclosed that relevant federal agencies are under direct instruction of the President to provide food, water and bedding materials for the internally displaced persons (IDPs).

“Politicians should know we are in a war situation. Our kith and kin are under stress and pain, PVC is important but I must say the welfare of our people is very paramount in our heart as PDP leaders. We will do our very best to bring this insurgency to an end,” he assured, stressing that the Federal Government will collaborate with PDP stakeholders to fast track rehabilitation of the displaced and “militarily and politically” put an end to the insurgency.

According to Wakil, “We are pursuing a plan that will create close rapport between the state and the Federal Government. Our people will feel the presence of both levels of government so that real development will occur and by Allah”s grace, peace and development will return to our state.”
