January 09, (THEWILL) – A 42-year-old software engineer from India has set a new Guinness World Record for the longest marathon punching of a punch bag.
Sidhu Kshetri, an experienced martial artist and Taekwondo champion, surpassed the previous record by 5 minutes, achieving a time of 55 hours and 15 minutes.
According to a statement by Guinness World Records on Tuesday, Kshetri spent six months training for his record attempt, putting in eight-hour training sessions daily. His routine involved four hours of training from 4am to 8am, followed by another session in the evening.
As with all “longest marathon” records, he was permitted a 5 minute break every hour, which could be accumulated. He used these breaks to eat, sleep and use the bathroom. Kshetri’s achievement comes over 10 years after he set his last world record, which was for the most martial arts kicks in 3 minutes using one leg (620 kicks), set in 2013.
In 2011, he claimed the record for the most martial arts kicks in one minute using a single leg (168 kicks). Although both records have since been broken by Ahmad Amin Bodla of Pakistan, Kshetri plans to reclaim them.
