BEVERLY HILLS, February 18, (THEWILL) – On Wednesday, the coach of Nigeria’s senior women’s national team, the Super Falcons, signed his contract with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), as he started his work with the Federation. The simple ceremony to signal his official association with the team took place at the Super Falcons’ Emir Hotels abode in Antalya, Turkey.

Amaju Melvin Pinnick, President of the NFF, reaffirmed the football-governing body’s confidence in the ability of the 64-year-old American to improve the global ranking of the team and shepherd the Super Falcons to greater accomplishments on both continental and international arenas.

Speaking at the ceremony, Pinnick said: “We believe that Mr. Waldrum is the right man to take the Super Falcons from where the team presently is to that higher level that we want it to be. We have been champions of Africa on nine occasions and it is time that we move up to competing stoutly for honours at global level.”

Also present at the signing was the General Secretary of the NFF, Mohammed Sanusi, who inked the contract on behalf of the NFF. Other staff members of the NFF who witnessed the occasion were Executive Member Suleiman Yahaya-Kwande, Chairman of the Women’s Football Committee, Hon. Ayo Hulayat Omidiran and Technical Director, Mr Augustine Eguavoen.

The Turkish Women’s Cup Tournament, also known as the Alanya Gold City Cup, is Waldrum’s first run-out with the reigning African champions and he started out with a slim victory over the Russian women’s club ZFK CSKA Moscow of the Russian Women’s Football Championship.

According to the NFF President, Waldrum will be officially unveiled at a separate ceremony when he returns to Nigeria after the Turkish Cup.
